Although the German automakers said earlier this year that they were ready for the U.S. economic downturn, BMW has announced a measure to combat the eroding value of the dollar. Starting June 1, BMW will raise its U.S. prices by 1 percent across the board. "It's a moderate price increase that reflects the conditions in the market," Markus Sagemann, a spokesman for BMW, told Bloomberg.

I grabbed the keys to the BMW X6 last night. By the time I got home I was wondering whether, in a quiet corner of the FIZ, BMW's giant engineering center in Munich, a bunch of engineers were crying into their weissbier over this thing. Don't get me wrong, the X6 -in this case the six-cylinder version -is an impressive piece of work.

A ship carrying food aid to Somalia which was seized a week ago by pirates has been released. The Jordanian-registered Victoria, carrying a cargo of 4,000 tonnes sugar donated by Denmark, was hijacked as it approached the capital, Mogadishu. The ship's local agent said the crew of about 12 was safe and the ship was now heading to Mogadishu with Somali soldiers onboard.

BERLIN (AP) A German cargo ship held captive for 41 days off the coast of Somalia was released and all aboard were safe and unharmed, a shipping company said Wednesday.
