This weekend, Blizzard Entertainment will be holding the first of its two conventions for 2008, and the last as a wholly owned subsidiary of Vivendi Games. Held in Paris, France, the Blizzard Worldwide Invitational 2008 will be the first of its kind in Europe, and offer a host of event standards, such as tournaments, cosplay contests, music, and developer panels.

The video game Spore begins its life cycle Tuesday. For its first baby step, the game's Spore Creature Creator goes live at www.spore.com. The program, for Windows and Macintosh PCs, lets players design creatures using the game's editing tools. Those creations will populate the world — actually, the galaxies — of Spore when the full game launches Sept. 7.

An English teaser site has popped up for the upcoming Nintendo DS remake of Dragon Quest IV, confirming that the game is indeed coming to North America. There's not much to the site at the moment, but it does give a previously unannounced release date for the game, which should be making its way to the US on September 16, 2008.
