This morning, Time Warner made official that it would be spinning off Time Warner Cable as a separate company. I don't pretend to know whether the step is a positive or a negative for either company. But I do know one benefit for me: Now when I complain about how much I hate my cable provider, I no longer need to feel guilty that I am somehow driving down my company's stock price.

Some users of the customizable My Yahoo portal were unable to see prices for their lists of company stocks for a few days, but the Internet company said the problem has been fixed. The problem afflicted only a small fraction of users, less than 0.5 percent, the company said, and was fixed Thursday. Those who were affected should consider upgrading to the newer My Yahoo version, said spokeswoman Stephanie Arnaldy.
