Considering that Microsoft has yet to be a real friend to open source I have to be at least a bit suspect of the intentions behind the sponsorship of the ongoing open source census. My guess? I think Microsoft wants access to the results both so it can understand open source but also so it can start to consider legal actions against the most popular products and the companies that develop them.

Microsoft says its offer for Yahoo is off the table, but could this be just a negotiating ploy? It's a natural question to ask. I mean, if Microsoft has had the hots for Yahoo for two years, can it really be so sure that it is no longer interested? My take is that Microsoft has ruled out two options, but that one possibility for Yahoo remains out there. Clearly...

With Yahoo apparently off the table, it's time to see what Microsoft's back-up plan looks like. Microsoft has said for some time that it has a strategy with or without Yahoo, but it's a strategy clearly in need of a jump-start. In search, for example, Microsoft has been trying to take on Google for some time...

Microsoft, along with Sony, both decided to skip out on E for All last year as exhibitors, perhaps taking a wait-and-see approach. This left only Nintendo to hype up its first-party wares at the first E for All. But event organizer IDG Worldwide has scored a big win in signing up Microsoft for this year. In a statement, IDG World Expo CEO Mary Dolaher said...

LOS ANGELES The Screen Actors Guild on Thursday gave its most detailed explanation yet for its rejection of a final contract offer by Hollywood studios, citing shortfalls in pay and union jurisdiction on made-for-Internet productions. It said the producers' offer also would leave out residual fees paid to actors for content that is made specifically for, and then retransmitted on, the Web.

For advertisers, Microsoft's failed bid for Yahoo! not only dashed hopes for a viable competitor in the online ad space but also increased the chances of Google tightening its grip on the search market. Although it is expected to draw intense antitrust scrutiny, a Yahoo!-Google search ad pact appeared more likely this week after Microsoft abruptly withdrew its $46 billion offer for the company.

Nokia is currently working with the Zune team on integration of Zune Marketplace content according to a well-placed source within Microsoft. The joint development is directed at content delivery rather than a hardware device according to the source. Now, obviously Nokia does not support Windows Mobile, but Microsoft's move still makes sense: Nokia dominates the worldwide handset market.

Argumentative Alexandra is up for eviction this week, but has vowed not to change her behaviour. The news will not come as a surprise to loudmouth Alex she admitted she was expecting to be up for eviction yesterday (16.06.08). Despite claiming to be "preparing" herself to leave, she vowed facing the axe would not make her change her behaviour. I so reckon I'm up this week.
