Fujifilm Japan announce S3 Pro buffer upgrade Fujifilm Japan has today announced that it will make available an upgrade for the S3 Pro digital SLR which will increase the camera's internal buffer from 128 MB to 256 MB. This increase in buffer space means up to 8/16 RAW/JPEG frames (Wide dynamic range) or 17/33 RAW/JPEG frames (Standard dynamic range) in a single burst. This addresses at least one of our complaints about the S3 Pro.

Fujifilm S3 Pro, $2499 in the US As reported on several other websites Fujifilm US has set the 'minimum advertised price' of its new S3 Pro digital SLR at $2499. That's some $1000 more than the Canon EOS 20D and $1500 more than Nikon's D70. Clearly Fujifilm see the S3 Pro fitting in between those models and the high-end professional targetted units like the EOS-1D Mark II or D2H/D2X. No other region has yet announced pricing.

Japan opts to keep rates on hold The Central Bank of Japan has opted to keep interest rates unchanged at 0.5%. The unanimous decision by the bank's members, made during a two-day meeting, had been widely expected. Analysts say Japan, a key exporter, is likely to leave rates unchanged for some time, due to inflationary pressure and a US slowdown. Japan has the lowest rate among the Group of Eight industrialised nations.
